Apprendre la Langue Française (Part 26): le verbe – prendre (conjugaison au présent)

In the verb conjugation pattern, prendre is classified as an irregular verb (belongs to the fifth group).

je tu il, elle, on nous vous ils, elles
prends prends prend prenons prenez prennent

The following French verbs that end in -prendre are conjugated the same way:

apprendre – to learn
comprendre – to understand
désapprendre – to unlearn
entreprendre – to undertake
méprendre – to mistake
prendre – to take
rapprendre, réapprendre – to relearn
reprendre – to retake, to take again
surprende – to surprise

Some examples in using these French verbs:

J’apprends le français. I learn french.
Tu apprends la leçon. You understand the lesson.
Elle désapprend certaines règles. She unlearns some rules.
Les hommes d’affaires entreprendre une nouvelle aventure. The businessmen undertake a new venture.
Nous prenons la nourriture au magasin. We take the food from the store.
Vous surprendrez vos amis. You will surprise your friends.
